It's sad because it's a baby and can't eat candy
Translucent eyes observed the pledge of innocence held safely in her arms. The movements of her body were slow and gentle- graceful like a swan drinking fresh water. Although tears stung her eyes and her body was held tense, she whispered sweet lullabies into the child’s ear. A reply from the child was a joyful cry. She smiled to the child which mimicked the action instantly- forcing pain to envelope her heart.

As one they made their way through the tight intertwinement of drooping trees. Crows boasted to one another in the water filled land as she began treading through ankle high mud. The brown, pulpy substance oozed between her toes in each step. It was cool and almost, comforting. Again, she cast her eyes down at the small one in her arms. Warm and innocent; a face soft as white cotton. She ran her finger along the boys' forehead and smiled sadly.

And alas these swollen emotions had lingered in canals for far too long. Although her heart longed and ached for her love- a vast distance had grown between them. The time spent together was rough and rigid as sandpaper- each time she dared to touch and reach forth to her wonderful Armand, it was like reaching forth into a viper's jowl. The venom spat from the serpents lips had pierced her soul and poisoned all happiness she grasped.
She had watched him continue on his ways, forgetting about her bodice and their glorious past. Those days of sitting close 'neath a moss covered canopy.
Lustful eyes resting upon a blushing face, fingers carressing skin, lips surrounded- overwhelmed with whispers of lost words.

It was these lost words that were tearing apart her mind; her heart. It was as if she were losing a close friend, or her arm had been ripped from its' joints. It was because of those lost words that she had come to this place.
Her feet stopped moving as they were prickled by the long, still grass. Her mud-stained white dress hung on her in a droopy manor. It looked as though it would tear to bits, in moments. Although, this did not matter, for just on the other side of the undersized field of grass, was a pond. The pond itself was lively. It always had small fish, that she could never name, swimming around as if life were simply sensational. Not to mention the frogs and crickets that croaked and chirped in a surprisingly harmonious way. Tall grass and hanging trees feathered the naked eye from seeing all this beauty.
Desriee took small short steps towards the pond, until her feet were just inches away from it. She closed her eyes, inhaling the scents around her. Pine, willow, wet grass, damp earth...
Kneeling next to the pond she looked at her dear child once more. Her finger traced the rounded shape of his head and swirled around all over until she came to the tip of his nose. A smile was weakly splayed on her face as the child's dark eyes gazed up at her.
She unwrapped him from the blanket and held the boy against her chest. She whispered in his hear, "I love you." before holding him out above the water and pushing him under.
His small body did not move much at all. He appeared to be more at rest than she. Yet his dark eyes, lost and confused, still stared up at her. A single tear streamed down her face, resting itself in the pond water, only to be followed by several others.

And her heart tore apart- releasing decayed happiness throughout her veins. Her guttural screams came not from the body, but merely her soul escaping the prison it had been trapped in. How she craved to be touched and felt- loved like they once were.
She watched the child she conceived, picturing her lover, the one Armand never knew. Guilt grasped her 'round the throat, forcing moral thought to fade- banished to the depths of sin. Desiree gasped for breath as she held innocence beneath a blanket of false hope.
The creature she held passed peacefully in a wave of confusion and treacherous love unlike any other. Prying cold fingers from her child, she sat within the grass aching through every crevice she could.
How could she have done such a thing to her own kin? Blood was thicker than water- and now she was a traitor.
Her heart raced within her chest as she looked around. How can somebody be in so much pain? How could they endure at such an hour?
The sky blushed- disgusted at her filthy crime.
She grasped a vine from a willow tree, praying to God that it would hold. Fingers shook violently- adrenaline pumped through collapsed channels.
A grunt surpassed lips from the effort of chucking the vine over a low hanging branch. Quickly, her eyes scanned the area for something to step onto. She spotted a fair sized rock not too far off that she rolled into place.
Stepping lightly onto the stone, she tied the end of the vine to the trunk and fell to a struggle.
Battling strength with air, her hands went to the lies around her neck. Dear Gods, what have I done?
Crows cried to the heavens as crickets screamed their sorrows to their neighbors. And somewhere off in the distance, a newborn cried for the first time.
