Rabbit Dance
Ashley, a four year old girl stood, legs quivering with excitement, her short-cut,
brown hair hung from her head, slightly ruffled from playing earlier in the day. On
either side of her stood her cousins, Becky, Jessica, and Melissa, all of them around
the age of eight. There were a handful of adults around too, but she hadn’t been
paying them much attention. Until now. Now was her moment of full attention.
Her moment of spotlight! Her moment of GLORY!
Everybody was gathered at Ashley’s cousins house. She didn’t seem too sure
why. But it had to do with her father dieing in the hospital. There was much talk
about that being muttered around the room. All Ashley seemed to care for was the
camera in front of her. They were making a tape for her dad
A proud smile crept upon her face as a cassette was slid into the cassette
player. A soft jingle began to play and it gradually became louder. The four girls
broke out in a giggle fit. Their laughter filling the room with a joy that had recently
been unknown. The soft hands of the children moved around in swift movements
as they did actions for the song, as they sang with the innocent voices.
Ashley was right into it, curing her index finger and middle fingers to look
like bunny ears.
“Little Rabbit Foo-Foo, I don’t want to see you, scooping up the field mice and
bopping them on the head!” With the last line Ashley whacked her forehead with a
flat palm, the in-pact forcing her to fall over. Luckily a couch was seated right
being her giving a soft landing. Ashley got back up joining her cousins in the
‘Rabbit Dance’. She couldn’t let a single fall let down all this attention she was
receiving. Not now. There was no way. She threw on another toothy smile,
laughing out of a nervous reaction. There she was back in the fun-packed action!
Soon enough the moment of spotlight was over. All of the adults clapped,
their eyes shining with happiness. The video camera was shut off after one last word,
from a four year old girl with short-cut brown hair, named Ashley.
“I love you daddy.”
