“Of course I am! When is anyone not ready for ice cream?” He asked with a light chuckle.
"I don't know, being ready for icecream is something that is pretty hard to be excited for." she said with a smile.
She saw that his bright smile was replaced by a slightly nervous one as his eyes rested on the boy a few feet away. Sophie turned to get a better look. It was Julio!
“Hey Christopher. I’m Sophie’s brother Julio.” he stated, making Sophie giggle slightly. Her brother was so odd. Of course Chris would know that already!
The two shook hands, “Hi, I’m Chris. As you’ve already stated,” Chris said. Hopefully he wasn't feeling awkward or scared of Julio. He was no one to be afraid of. He was completely harmless. The only thing he'd killed in his life was a beatle. But that was because it had been underneath Sophie's pillow and was crawling around in her bed, late at night. She's been terrified of it and ran to get her brother to save the day. He was such a hero!
“I’m Sophie’s friend,” he said afterwards, holding his arms by his side, “We met at the Laundromat today.”
"That's cool. She's met lots of interesting people at the laundromat...." Julio's voice faded as he went on most likely deep in thought.
"He didn't know how to use that one machine" Sophie said, changing the subject back, "...you know the one that doesn't work unless you....n-no...you don't know..." she said, reading the blank expression on Julio's face.
“I really like Sophie, so don’t worry,” he said
“Not that you ever had to worry. I mean, I like her as a friend. Not as a girl. Not that being a girl Is bad. I just mean I would never…pursue her…in the…sexual way that other guys…would. Not that I’m saying that she isn’t attractive! She’s very pretty, and nice and a great girl, but I mean, she’s just a friend. I just want to be her friend. Who’s a guy.” Sophie patted his head, she felt bad for him. He was just digging a deeper hole for himself. “I’m sorry, that sounds…wrong. Let me start over,” Chris took in a breath, turned around from the two and then back again, taking Julio's hand. “Hi Viggo. Nice to meet you. I’m glad you could come along to get ice cream with us.” Sophie's head turned around, looking for her dear friend Viggo. Where was he? He'd left in the morning to go do...something. He wasn't back already, was he?
"Uhm, do you know Viggo Slaughter? He's a pretty cool guy. But he's not here right now. He went for a walk earlier on this morning. He'll probably be gone most of the day. He took his guitar with him....that's the big hint right there." Julio seemed confused, as was Sophie.
"Hmm, Viggo didn't say anything about ever meeting you. But I guess he doesn't talk much anyway..." Sophie leaned her back against the wall. She was really beginning to crave that icecream now.
“Heh...Can’t say I’ve ever seen you around before....”
Running a hand through his hair Chris smiled. “I usually sleep during the day and work at night, so that would probably be why. And I don’t go out a lot during the day. Unless it’s for groceries or laundry. So unless you walk around the halls at night, then it’s no surprise you haven’t seen me around.”
“ If I were a machine, I would meditate even if I was unplugged.” Sophie looked up momentarily at Julio and, seeing the somewhat blank expression on her brother's she ignored it. He was probably thinking outloud again. No surprise there or any point in trying to figure out what he had originally been thinking about. It could have stemmed from something as simple as eating watermelon..and somehow evolved into meditating machines!
A smile began forming at Chris’ lips as he held back laughter. “Did you say that if you were a machine, then you would…meditate even if you were unplugged?” Sophie just rolled her eyes. What a mess, her brother was useless in conversations. He was even more worse then she. He probably just felt awkward meeting someone new. His mind always tended to wander. It wandered soo far off topic sometimes, it was funny.
"That I did..." Julio said with a serious nod, "Oh..." he then smiled, "Well...uhm...haven't you ever noticed that machines hum...I was just thinking they sounded like meditators. Machines have to go through so much pain. That's why they hummm. To relax." he stated.
"Anyways...I think I'm going to leave now. I forgot that I had to get something in town." he said, holding up his hand to wave, "See ya later Sophie, Chris." With that he walked away. Sophie frowned. He was definitely feeling awkward. He was so shy.
" Kay..bye?" she said, waving and when he had gotten to the stairs Sophie turned to Chris, "Sorry about that," she apologized, "He's just incredibly shy...and has troubles..uhm...conversing with others. His mind wanders constantly when he's with someone he doesn't know. The things he says can be so funny though." she said with a small smile and began to walk down the hall, towards the elevator, "So how about that icecream then?"
